Gujarat-based power generating firm Gujarat Industries Power Company spurted 9.22% to Rs 7.40 and it topped gainers in the BSE's A group shares. Recently, its board approved expansion of its lignite-fired power generating capacity at an investment of Rs 1300 crore by installing two units of 250 mega watts each. The estimated investment covers the plants at Surat in south Gujarat. The project would be financed by debt and internal accruals.

Mid-cap IT company iGate Global Solutions flared up 6.16% to Rs 245.70 and came second among top gainers in A group. Yesterday (5 September 2007), Reliance Long Term Equity Fund bought 6.51 lakh shares of the company via two bulk deals on the BSE. Macquarie Bank sold 1.65 lakh shares of the company at Rs 215.18 and HSBC Financial Services Middleeast sold 4.90 lakh shares of the company at Rs 215.

State-run Dena Bank jumped 5.92% to Rs 65.30. It was third biggest gainer in A group.

Oil refiner Bongaigaon Refinery advanced 5.68% to Rs 55.80 and it was fourth biggest gainer in A group.

World's largest speciality packaging firm Essel Propack moved up 5.07% to Rs 62.15. It was the fifth biggest gainer in A group.
